How to Apply for OBC, EBC, and Caste Certificates via MeeSeva (2026) | Full Guide

In today’s world, Caste Certificates are essential for securing seats in higher education and applying for Central or State Government jobs. Specifically, OBC (Other Backward Classes), EBC (Economically Backward Classes), and EWS certificates are vital for availing reservation benefits.

In this blog, we will walk you through the simple process of obtaining these certificates via MeeSeva in 2026.

Understanding the Differences: OBC vs. EBC vs. EWS

Many people get confused between these categories. Here is a simple breakdown:

  • OBC (Other Backward Classes): This is primarily for Central Government jobs and national institutions (like IIT, NIT, UPSC). It is classified into 'Creamy Layer' and 'Non-Creamy Layer'.

  • Caste Certificate: This is required for State Government schemes and education. It is mandatory for individuals belonging to BC (Backward Classes) communities.

  • EBC & EWS Certificates: These are for the Economically Weaker Sections within the OC (Open Category) and communities like Reddy, etc. They are used for state-level scholarships, fee reimbursements, and other government schemes.

Required Documents

Before you visit a MeeSeva center or apply online, keep the following documents ready:

  • Aadhaar Card: Identity proof of the applicant.

  • Ration Card / Rice Card: For family detail verification.

  • SSC Marks Memo: To verify Date of Birth and name.

  • Study Certificates: SSC, Intermediate, and Degree certificates are required.

  • Parent’s Caste Certificate: If you have an old certificate, it makes the process much faster.

  • Additional Proofs: 10th Class TC (Transfer Certificate), a Caste-related letter, or a Notary is mandatory.
